AUSTIN BOOK SHOP, Richmond Hill

Forgotten New York -

104-29 Jamaica Avenue is a long way from Austin Street, but there’s a reason for the name on this worn sign under the Jamaica elevated. In 1954, Bernard Titowsky opened a used bookshop in the heart of Kew Gardens, 82-60 Austin Street, and moved around the corner sixteen years later, over the years culling a devoted following […]

This no-nonsense, Machine Age sign appears at the employee entrance of the underground NYC Pitkin Avenue Yards at Sutter and Grant Avenues in East New York. Why not Sutter Avenue Yards? The facility serves IND 8th Avenue Line trains (A, C) running under Pitkin Avenue, the same avenue where the Fulton Street El made its […]

LEFFERTS BLVD. STOPLIGHTS, Richmond Hill

Forgotten New York -

It’s unusual to see stoplights mounted like this in New York City, where they’re usually found on large, thick guy-wired stanchions (as they have since the early 1950s). This unusual arrangement, with stoplights wired across Lefferts Boulevard, is necessitated because there’s no room for a mastarm that allows traffic to see them. Here, two railroad […]

STAR SHOES, Jersey City

Forgotten New York -

As far as I’m concerned,  and for my own nefarious purposes, the towns of New Jersey clustering by the Hudson River such as Hoboken, Jersey City, Weehawken, et al. have all been annexed by New York City, and I’ll be treating them that way as the years continue to pass. The Five Boroughs continue to […]

MassMutual Study on Business Owners Gives Insights on Latinos’ Business Attitudes and Concerns

MassMutual

Dental professionals in private practice share many of the values and attitudes towards business planning as other closely-held business owners. That’s why this month, we’d like to share with HDA members an article about a study on Latino business owners conducted by MassMutual to spark a meaningful dialogue about how to best position your dental practice for long-term success and stability and stress the need to consider the impact not planning could have on your dental practice and on those who matter most.

Read more about the study as well as key business planning concerns that were most top of mind by respondents in the 2015 MassMutual Business Owner Perspectives study:

  • Succession Planning

2016 Chapter of the Year- Houston Hispanic Dental Association

The passion and commitment of this chapter has lead to exceptional growth and contributions over the last year in all aspects of the profession and their community.
The chapter has increased their membership by 50% in just the last 6 months. HHDA leaders have doubled their marketing effort to accomplish this goal and have engaged their local dental student chapter in the community and social events. Their motivation and commitment to the dental and hygiene students has lead the chapter to transition 20 new dental graduates as new professional members!
Some say that a vision is a dream and that goals are dreams with a deadline. In Houston, the HHDA chapter is living their DREAM.
Congratulations to the Houston Hispanic Dental Association!
